APNAH Endowment
Lecture 2006
28
May 2006 |
|
The College for Leadership
and HRD (CLHRD), Valencia, Mangalore, organised the APNAH Endowment Lecture
2006 at its premises in Mangalore on 28 May 2006 at 06.00 pm. Dr Xavier
Alphonse, S.J., member, University Grants Commission and former Principal,
Loyola College, Chennai, presented the lecture, titled ‘Developing Human
Resource for Enhancing Competencies to Neutralise Individual and Collective
Violence”. In his endowment lecture, Dr Alphonse cited instances of
violence portrayed on TV, which have a negative impact on the psyche of
children. We have become passive spectators to acts of violence around us
and this has lead to insensitivity and carelessness, he regretted. Mahatma
Gandhi classified violence as physical and passive violence. We need to
guard against the passive violence that is inherent in all of us, he pointed
out. Humanism and empathy are the only panacea to stem the vicious tide of
violence that seems to engulf society he asserted. Promotion of healthy
human relationships could also reduce violence in children, he opined.
Prof. M.I. Savadatti, former
Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University and Chairman of Academic Senate of
CLHRD, presided over the programme.
The other dignitaries
present were Prof. P.T. Manoharan, Former Vice-Chancellor, Madras
University; Prof. K.V. Kodandaramaiah, Director of Collegiate Education,
Karnataka; and Prof. M.D. Muthamma, former Director of Collegiate Education,
Karnataka
Arunabhas Bose,
Vice-Principal of the college proposed the vote of thanks.
Almost eight professors,
academicians, members of NGOs and Principals of colleges in
Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu,
Kerala and Karnataka attended the programme.

resourceful individuals or organisations, to promote humanism and learning
