1.1 TITLE OF
THE PROGRAMME
The programme shall be called BHRD with BBM (Basics in Human Resource
Development with Bachelor of Business Management), a Composite Graduate
Programme.
1.2 ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
A candidate who has passed the two-year Pre-University Examination
conducted by the Pre-University Board, Karnataka state or any other
examination considered equivalent thereto is eligible for admission to the
course.
1.3 DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME
Duration of study for the BHRD with BBM Composite Graduate Programme
shall extend over a period of three years, with each year being divided into
three trimesters, with an extra trimester during the first year. Thus, there
will be ten trimesters during the course.
1.4 MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
The medium of instruction and examination is English.
1.5 SUBJECTS OF STUDY
The BHRD with BBM Composite Graduate Programme offers five categories of
subjects:
1) Orientation Subjects - 05 2) Foundation Subjects - 11 3) Functional
Subjects - 12
4) Allied Core Subjects - 16 5) Major core Subjects - 20
All Functional Subjects, some Foundation Subjects and all Orientation
Subjects will have Continuous Assessment (CA). These papers will have no
trimester-end theory examination. All the Major Core Subjects will have a
written examination at the end of the trimester (TA). Functional Languages
and Allied Core subjects will have Unit-end Assessments (UA) in every
trimester and an Annual Assessment (AA).

1.6 ATTENDANCE
A candidate shall be considered to have satisfied the requirements of
attendance for the trimester if he/she attends not less than 75% of the
number of classes actually held during the trimester in each of the
subjects. Shortage of attendance below 75% but not less than 60% may be
condoned by the Principal, on producing a medical certificate and the
Principal's decision shall be final.
05 marks in each paper will be reserved for attendance of the student.
1.7 TRIMESTER
SCHEDULE AND HOURS OF INSTRUCTION
1.7.1 Each trimester shall consist of 12 weeks of study (including the
days of examination)
The first trimester will be from 07 June to 28 August
The second trimester will be from 14September to 09 January
The third trimester will be from 18 January to 10 April
If the first day or the last day of a trimester happens to be a holiday, the
commencing or closing day will be suitably adjusted to have full twelve
weeks in every semester
1.7.2 Papers 1.02.05, 1.02.06, 1.03.05, 1.03.06, 1.02.07, 1.02.08,
1.02.09, 1.02.10, 2.05.07, 2.05.08, 2.05.09, 2.05.10, 3.08.05, 3.08.06,
3.08.07, 3.08.08, 3.08.09, 3.08.10, 3.08.11 and 3.08.12 are Allied Core
subjects, the study of which will lead to a University degree in BBM
(Bachelor of Business Management). For these subjects instructions will be
offered for two hours, per paper (except during the first trimester). They
will have no practicals. These subjects will have an annual examinations
during July or August (depending on the University Examination Schedule).
After every trimester Unit-end Assessment (UA) will be conducted for Allied
Core (BBM) Subjects and Functional Languages.
1.7.3 Four hours per day from Tuesday through Saturday will be
utilized for Orientation Subjects, Functional Subjects, Foundation Subjects
and Major Core subjects. Apart from these three more hours will be available
on Sundays.
1.7.4 Each paper (other than Allied Core Subjects) will have a total
of forty hours of classroom instructions including six hours of practicals.
1.7.5 There will be ten trimesters in all, throughout the three year
Composite Graduate Programme.
During the first
year there will be four trimesters which will include the Foundation Course.
The remaining two years will have three trimesters each respectively.
1.7.6 There will be one Internal Test conducted during each trimester
for each of the Trimester-end Assessment (TA) papers, whereas ten tests will
be conducted at equal intervals, in order to facilitate a Continuous
Assessment (CA) of the students for the CA papers. The best eight of ten
tests will be considered for calculation of marks.
A preparatory examination of 100 marks will be conducted in the allied core
subjects (BBM) towards the end of the IV, VII and X trimesters respectively.
A final examination (both theory & practicals) will be conducted at the end
of each trimester for the Trimester-end Assessment papers.
1.7.7 The Continuous Assessment papers will have only Subject
Interviews at the end of each trimester.
1.7.8 The first re-examination will be held within thirty days from
the commencement of the next trimester.
A second re-examination for any unsuccessful student in any trimester will
be held along with the regular students in the respective trimester of the
next year.
In case of any student failing to pass the examination even after three
attempts, the Academic Senate of the College may evolve alternate systems to
help the student.
1.7.9 The minimum marks to be scored by a student to pass in each of
the Orientation, Foundation, Functional and Major Core subjects on an
aggregate, will be 50% of the total marks allotted in each subject.
In the Trimester-end Assessment (TA) Papers, a minimum of 40% in each theory
paper is mandatory for a pass, in addition to 40% in the practical
examination of the concerned paper. ie A minimum of 16 out of 40 marks will
be required to pass in the final exam in each subject and a minimum of 8 out
of 20 will be required to pass in the practical examination for each of the
TA Papers.
In the Continuous Assessment papers a minimum of 40% would be required in
each of these papers, in order to pass in the Continuous Assessment Tests
(when the marks in the 8 tests are added together) and also in the Subject
Interview, that will be conducted at the end of the trimester. ie A minimum
of 24 out of 60 will be required to pass in each of the Continuous
Assessment Tests and a minimum of 8 out of 20 will be required to pass in
each CA subject interview too.
1.8 PRACTICALS AND ASSIGNMENTS
1.8.1 There will be two practicals per subject in every trimester for
all papers except Allied Core papers and Functional Language Papers.
1.8.2 Assignments will be given only in the Allied Core and some
Foundation subjects.
1.9 GRADING

1.9.2 The
Composite Graduate Programme follows credit system for the diploma. All
papers are divided into orientation subjects, foundation subjects,
functional subjects, allied core subjects and major core subjects. There are
separate credits for all papers. While the major core subjects (four hours
per week) carry three credits for each paper, the allied core subjects (two
hours per week) carry one credit for each unit of each trimester. The
functional subjects, except the languages, carry two credits each. The
functional languages (two hours per week) carry one credit per unit each for
all three trimesters. The Foundation subjects and Orientation subjects carry
one credit each (four hours each). The whole Composite Graduate Programme
carries a credit of 130. Additional subjects, which are optional and not
mandatory, carry one credit each for each subject.

There will be no provision for Credit if a student fails in any of the
theory papers. However he/she can earn credits in the rest of the 60 marks
in a paper of the students' choice in the Trimester-end Assessment papers
and in the rest of the 40 marks in the Continuous Assessment Papers, (i.e.
Excluding the 60 Marks scored by the student in the 8 Continuous Assessment
Tests), provided the student has not scored 80 or more marks in total in
that paper

TRIMESTER-END ASSESSMENT : The marks for Trimester-end Assessment
(theory papers) will be as follows:

2.1.1 All
the Major Core Subjects will have a written examination (final exam) at the
end of the trimester (Trimester-end Assessment). The marks allotted for this
examination will be 40 per paper (subject). The duration of examination
shall be two hours for each paper.
2.1.2 During the trimester one internal test will be conducted in
each subject of two hours duration for 50 marks. This will be then scaled
down to 20 marks for each test in each subject for the purpose of Internal
Assessment.
2.2.1 Practical examination will be conducted at the end of the
trimester by an External and Internal Examiner. A topic will be given for
the purpose for which 15 marks will be allotted.
2.2.2 05 marks will be set-aside for a Subject Interview (interactive
session, viva voce) between the student and examiners. An External Examiner
along with the Internal who teaches the subject concerned, will conduct the
Subject Interview. The student may be allowed to suggest a topic of her or
his choice in the subject, on which the questions may be asked. So the total
marks for practical will be 20.
2.2.3 The Practical Record Book of the students will be valued based
on the following criteria for 10 marks:
Originality 02 marks
Language 02 marks
Presentation 04 marks
Neatness 02 marks
Total 10 marks
2.2.4 05 marks will be set aside in each of the subjects for Seminar
Presentations. The student will have to present at least one seminar paper
per paper. The topic for the seminar will have to be specified by the
lecturer, from among the units in the syllabus. The criteria for allotting
these marks will be based on:
Presentation 03 marks
Content 02 marks

2.3.1 05 marks will be reserved for students' attendance. The
percentage of attendance and marks for the same are as follows:
96 -100% 05 marks
91 - 95% 04 marks
86 - 90% 03 marks
81 - 85% 02 marks
75 - 80% 01 marks
Below 75% No Marks
2.3.2 If a student has attendance between 60 and 75%, the Principal
may condone the shortage of attendance on the production of a medical
certificate.
2.3.3 During the Trimester-end Assessment (TA), if any student is
absent and the reasons are found to be genuine, a re-examination will be
conducted for the student, which will have to be answered within 30 days
from the commencement of the next trimester.
2.3.4 A second chance will be given to the student in the following
year in case he/she is not successful in his/her previous attempt. (Along
with the students of the of the following year)
2.3.5 In case a student is not able to complete the paper in all the
three attempts the Academic Senate keeps the right to help the student with
a remedial measure.
3.1 CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT: All papers except the Allied Core, Major
Core and Functional Languages, will have Continuous Assessment (CA) scheme
of examinations. The distribution of marks for these papers will be as
follows:
Continuous Assessment 60 marks

3.1.1 Ten tests of 15 marks each, will be conducted, A subject
interview will be conducted. The best eight of the ten will be considered
for calculation of marks, which will make a total of 120 marks. This will
then be scaled down to 60 marks per paper.
3.1.2 A subject interview will be conducted by an External Examiner
along with the Internal Examiner who teaches the respective subject. The
student may be allowed to suggest a topic of her or his choice from the
subject, on which the question may be asked. The total marks allotted for
this interview will be 20.
3.2 The Practical Record Book of the students will be valued based on
the following criteria for 10 marks:
Originality 02 marks
Language 02 marks
Presentation 04 marks
Neatness 02 marks
Total 10 marks
3.3 05 marks will be set aside in each of the subjects for Seminar
Presentations. The student will have to present at least one seminar per
paper. The topic for the seminar will have to be specified by the lecturer,

will be based on:

NOTE: The mode of conducting the Continuous Assessment Tests may be as
follows:
Individual Quiz, Group Quiz, Paragraph Writing, Rapid Fire Round, Objective
Type Tests (Individual), Preparation of Questionnaire, Debates, Paper
Presentation, Case Study Analysis, Group Discussion, Interview, Preparing
Mind Map/Paradigm, Jigsaw Puzzles, Crosswords. Any other method that may be
evolved.
3.4.1 Project Work and Field Study will carry 100 marks each. For
both Project Work and Field Study, there will be a double valuation one by
an internal examiner and another by an external examiner. Average marks will
be accepted.
3.4.2 Internal Assessment marks shall be announced on the Notice
Board of the college and students' signatures obtained.
4.1 A candidate who fails in the first trimester examination may be
allowed to go to the second trimester. A candidate shall be admitted to
fourth trimester only if he/she has cleared 50% of the papers in trimester
I, II and III. He /she will be admitted to the V trimester even if he/she
has failed in all the papers of IV trimester. A candidate who fails in the
V, VI and VII semesters may be allowed to go to the VIII semester provided
such a candidate has cleared 50% of papers prescribed for trimesters one to
seven.
4.2 If a student has done well in all the papers except in one , the
Dean of Examinations may award a maximum of 05 marks to the candidate to
enable her or him to pass.
4.3 If a student requires only a few marks to improve her or his
grade, the Dean of Examination may award a maximum of 05 marks to the
candidate to improve her or his grade.
5.1 VALUATION OF TRIMESTER END PAPERS
5.1.1 There will be double valuation in every Trimester-end Assessment
Paper, one by an Internal examiner and the other by an external examiner.
The average of the two valuations will be considered as the Final Marks of
the student.
5.1.2 In case there is a difference of more than 15% in the marks
allotted by the two examiners, then that paper concerned will be sent for
third valuation. The average of the two with the lesser difference between
them, out of the three valuations will be considered as the final marks of
the student in that subject.
5.1.3 If a student is not satisfied with her or his results in a
paper then the student may complain to the Dean of Examinations in writing.
In case the student is still not satisfied with the award given then she or
he may approach the Principal of the college with the complaint.
5.1.4 If a student still has any grievance, she or he may appeal the
Academic Senate of the College.
6.1 DECISION BY THE ACADEMIC SENATE
6.1.1 In case of any matter not covered by these rules, the Academic
Senate is competent to take the decision.
6.1.2 In case of urgent matters the Chairman is authorised to take
appropriate decision and report it to the next meeting of the senate for
information.
